FIELDWORK PROJECTS

THREE MEN IN A BOAT: ANDY EVANS, DAVID COWDRY AND DAVID MILLER
THREE MEN IN A BOAT

An Artist's Life is not altogether an easy one as the following projects will testify!

Here we are working hard paddling our own canoe to those hard-to-reach spots so
that we can get a closer look at  winter birds on the Cleddau estuary, West Wales!

(From front to back, or left to right : Andy Evans, David Cowdry, David Miller).

 FLOATING BIRD HIDE

Construction begins.  At least the sun's out!

Hard at work , despite the rain.  Who said the life of a wildlife artist wasn't difficult?
This is harder than I thought.  Perhaps I need a little help?
Just the man!

That's the roof done then.  Now for the tarpaulin.
The journey begins.
On location - with a little help from
fellow artist Andy 'Master Bates' Evans.
Where did that boat come from then?
I don't know, but there's an odd chap with a camera asleep in there.  I hope he's tied his mooring tightly!

 FOOLING PUFFINS

Having had a few attempts at photographing puffins and other seabirds underwater with varying results, Dave Cowdry and I
have decided to attempt a rather novel approach to enticing our subjects a little closer to the camera!

Here is a taste of the results (with a little help from Colin the Puffin and Razor Bill)

Morning breaks over North Haven, Skomer
Introducing Colin the Puffin
Colin is feeling a little queasy....

...But is ready to set out on his big adventure

Whispering words of advice to the artist....
.....And off they go!
A fogged mask means that Dave and Razor Bill are lagging behind...
....but they finally make it into open water!
Who's the new bird then?

Colin makes some new friends...
A  close investigation by the real thing!
Meanwhile, beneath the surface.........
